Cano/Gonzalez Elementary is located in Edinburg, Texas. It was established in 1995 and was named after two veterans, Pedro Cano and Julian Gonzalez. Both men were highly decorated veterans who valiantly served their country during World War II, and were awarded many honors and when they returned home. They both received the Distinguished Service Cross, this medal was awarded for a distinguished act of heroism that involved exceptional risk of life. On March 18, 2014, Pedro Cano's Distinguished Service Cross was upgraded to Medal of Honor posthumously.
A book written about Pedro Cano by Stephen P. Cano was donated to Cano/Gonzalez Elementary. Former Representative Aaron Pena presented the book to the students and staff.
At Cano/Gonzalez Elementary, students will master the competencies to be life-long learners to compete, contribute, and succeed in the global community through positive attitudes and high expectations.
